Los requiems de Verdi y Mozart me hacen llorar y me sirven para superar situaciones tristes.

per me il requiem di verdi e una tra le migliori composizioni. grande drammaturgia, grande requiem. viva verdi.

indeed that debate is too wide to fit in here ^^" my point is > I said Beethoven is/was a fad because he sort of became "out of fashion" in the early 20th century, then "discovered" again. Vivaldi was completely forgotten then discovered back in the 20th too. Mozart was never forgotten but still the movie Amadeus helped build his modern legend.
Of course no one knows what 2300 will look like. No Lady Gaga XD but hopefully radiohead, the beatles, elvis, bbking, aphex twin etcetc

@injektileur For every Mozart or Beethoven we remember today there were hundreds of other composers at the time who receive no attention today. Some wrote hundreds of symphonies (even more than Haydn). We don't remember them because their music didn't measure up, it wasn't great. Beethoven and most of the others were never fads, as you said many were only popular with a minority at the time, but their music has been recognized as great art since then. Will "Lady Gaga" be played in even 10 years?

@injektileur Whether in 300 years the Beatles will be appreciated is something I can't answer (It's questionable whether Western civilization will even exist in 300 years.) The Beatles wrote some memorable tunes. Is anything they did comparable to a Mozart Requiem or Beethoven Missa Solemins in complexity or artistic scope? Not even in the same universe. Western art is dead; we no longer live in a society that demands or appreciates great art on the level of past centuries.

Verdi's pretty talented, but I still prefer Mozart's Lacrimosa... Just an opinion.
