After waiting a few weeks for a non-windy day, and after working all day, i decided to get the Cessna 182 out for a pre-dusk flight. So much for that happening..Damn litter bugs. The can just happened to be sitting in a clump of grass and i couldn't see it at all from where i was standing. The prop broke and the landing gear bent, so it wasn't as bad as i had originally thought, but still ended the flight i was waiting for.

  • It really all depends if it's slightly bent or very bent. If only slightly, you should be able to rebend it with prop/spinner on. If it's bent too much, personally i'd replace the motor. Too much big bending with end up making the shaft weak and it "may" break off completely next time you crash. Other than that, use something like a vise to help straighten it out, or some tool that is straight and can help you put a good amount of pressure on the shaft. Try not to damage the thread though!.

  • i have know takien the cowling and spinner off, but i want to no how to make a straight shaft, i really dont want to replace the motor, i have messed around with the shaft but i cant get it dead straight is this important, any ideas other than that? thx

  • I've never seen one bent to the point that the spinner won't come off. Even with a bent shaft, you should still be able to unscrew the 2 screws holding the spinner on, undo the nut and pull the prop off. There's also 2 grub screws and an E clip holding the shaft in. Unfortunately, to get the shaft out, you're going to have to take the cowl off. It's easier to just change the motor over than messing around with the shaft.

  • i had a rough landing and now the prop shaft is bent, thus i cant ge the spinner off to look at the bent shaft to find a way to fix it, do u no if i can find a spare shft somewhere and how i can take the shaft off without having to take off the whole motor and nose cone, thanks

  • Yes, there's a couple of videos of this plane i've posted, both onboard camera and ground camera.

  • sorry about your plane , have you made any videos of it flying yet ?
