  • In 2006/7 humans ate about 1000 million tonnes

of cereal and livestock ate about 700 million

tonnes. Livestock consumes the output of

1/3 of arable land (globally) plus 3,400 million hectares of grazing land but produces just 16% of global calories.

  • We get our information from places like

veterinary journals. In a 2006 Australian

Veterninary Journal Study of 62 herds,

    about 33% of induced

dairy calves are still born and another 21%

are killed on farm. Typically farmers know what they do on their farms, but don't have a clue what the industry as a whole does. The farmers who induce calving aren't making comments here.

  • The hammer method was allowed because some farms have neither captive bolt pistols or rifles and just leave the calves to die. The hammer was considered to be an improvement.

  • Try taking footage of children being bashed and abused, its far more common.

  • In Australia, there are about a million calves killed annually from a dairy herd of about 2.7 million. This is in addition to the induced calves which were the focus of the ad. If dairy farmers don't like

induced calving, then why don't they lobby to have it banned? If dairy farmers don't like sending

5 day old calves to slaughter on 18 hour truck trips, then why don't they lobby to have them

banned? Why not lobby to have removing day

old calves and putting them on colostrum replacers banned?

  • Cruelty to farmed animals is getting worse with growing populations and overproducing for export.

Why make children blind to cruelty? That is selfishness from parents who are protecting their own conscience, not their children. How can anyone justify not letting children know about cruelty. How can they be taught to be caring and decent human beings?

Anyone who condones this is heartless :o( They are just poor little baby cows, so peaceful and innocent, just like children. Too sad :o(

  • OMG - how horribly cruel! Monsterous!!! No ice cream cone could possibly justify this abuse. Wonderful to be vegan and out of this vicious and insane practice. Thanks for the video exposing this unnecessary industry.

  • @dolphinjjam Part 2 - The crying from either the mother or the calf after they have been separated (within a day, but not much after 1 day) is heartwrenching. My neighbour, who has known the farmer for a long time says she sees the cadaver truck come round all the time.

I'm sure you look after your cows better, but still separating the calf from the mother so soon is sadistic torture at the very least. You do not do this work for the love of the animals, but to make money. Period.

  • @dolphinjjam Part 1 - Yes, REAL dairy farmers would do that, but then there are amateurs. I live 75 metres away from a dairy farm in Brittany, France. I hear them whip the cows back into place after they've cleaned out the milking barn when I walk on the road. The cows, unless in the last stages of pregnancy, stand in that barn all day. Only the mothers to be, possibly the last two months of their pregnancy, and new girls who are big enough to roam in the field, are outside. Continued...

  • I second dolphinjjam's comments - farmers care for their cows - dairy cows must be healthy and well cared for in order to produce pure wholesome milk.

    poor poor video.

  • this is soooo stupid. i hate you. i live on a dairy farm and we take VERY VERY good care of our cows. this is staged. REAL dairy farmers take care of their cows because other wise they wont produce milk and that would defeat the purpose. you guys dont know anything. i suggest you get the FACTS straight before you start posting this IGNORANT stuff!

  • Here Here

I think people should open their mind and have a real look not a vid that probably is at leats 10 years old(look at the ute)

    this is small mindedness

  • you really need to go to a dairy and see first hand

You should take a look at what a mother cow will do to another calf that is not her's!!

You will be surprised how well the cows and calves are looked after.

After all if you dont look after your stock they wont look after you.

  • screw u guys!!!!!! do u now how many people would lose their jobs if we cut dairy!!!!!!!!!this would get rid of other products too like ice cream, yogurt and other products that get rid of jobs in factories. Why don't you go mess with pro-d people who deserves it. there killing our future something dairy farmers don't do!!!!

  • Cows are then killed in a horrible way after you are done with them, any mother gets upset if her child is taken from her.

  • That is ridiculous the only nutrient not a plant based diet is B12 and is an easy supplement to take. i have been vegetarian almost totally vegan for over 20 years, i rode my bicycle across the U.S.A. to raise consciousness about animals at the age of 50 and a vegetarian. i am 65 years old now and ride my bicycle miles everyday on an 90% vegan diet. My wife is 60, jumps on the trampoline for an hour every day and is vegan.

  • @UglySid

Do you live in the city?

if you was in trouble in the street how many would walk past?

Now the same situation in the country you would find that most farm folk would stop.

most farm folk are also involved in service groups of some kind.

how is that not caring about your fellow human and not being decent?

Wish some city folk would take a leaf.

Yes I have lived in the cities of this country, Syd included
