First time I ever heard her singing was the opening of the movie "Biloxi Blues" singing a very 'torchy' version of "How High the Moon." It's my favorite version of the song by far...simply beautiful.
No not unusual Pat Sukuzi was the star of a very successful Rodgers & Hammerstein Musical' Flower Drum Song' on Broadway then. Their popularity shoudn't be unestimated.
Mickey Mantle did break out of his slump but too late that year. He had the worst year of his prime and the Yankees who were in last place at one point, finished third. But then they won 5 straight pennants.
I worked with a much older Pat Suzuki when I was a writer on Pat Marita's "Mr. T. and Tina'. Pat was a delightful person to work with. She had a delightful laugh and I remember her well. ...Rowby

Pat was born in California, a first generation American, unlike Myoshi Umecki, who was born and grew up in Japan.

Love that southern accent. Pretty good for a Japanese lady.
