  • quick question, well two really. If I am going to setup a raid 1 on a PC that has only two drives will I have to go the hardware route. and why is software raid less reliable than hardware?

  • Windows 7 can do software RAID with 2 drives. So, you would not need hardware RAID.

Software RAID is controlled by the OS, if something happens to the OS, it may break the RAID. Hardware RAID is more like a BIOS level control. It works independent from your OS.

  • Can you mir drive c: o disk 0 on software raid?

like disk 1 mir disk 0

  • Yes, just convert the primary drive to dynamic first.

  • @koshal2 i don't know exactly what event you have to set up, but read this page, it should give u some informations how to do it

  • @bixenbaer

how can i set an event for a HDD problem using windows 7?

Do i need an extra programm?

  • be careful, guys. windows 7 DOESN'T notificate the user by default if there's a hard disk failure. if you don't check the status manually you might have a problem someday using WIN 7 Software RAID. solution: use hardware raid or set an event for a hard disk problem... cheers

  • @domzit I use raid 1, and when I installed windows it partitioned off 70 gigabytes to the OS. Therefore, it appears as 930 GBs. I think you can.

  • Can I do this on Asus G73Jw

  • Can I do this on Asus G73Jw?

  • @domzit thats like the whole point of RAID 1

  • What happens if you remove your mirrored drive after all the data has been mirrored, will Windows complain each time it boots up??
