be careful, guys. windows 7 DOESN'T notificate the user by default if there's a hard disk failure. if you don't check the status manually you might have a problem someday using WIN 7 Software RAID. solution: use hardware raid or set an event for a hard disk problem... cheers

@domzit I use raid 1, and when I installed windows it partitioned off 70 gigabytes to the OS. Therefore, it appears as 930 GBs. I think you can.

What happens if you remove your mirrored drive after all the data has been mirrored, will Windows complain each time it boots up??
quick question, well two really. If I am going to setup a raid 1 on a PC that has only two drives will I have to go the hardware route. and why is software raid less reliable than hardware?

Windows 7 can do software RAID with 2 drives. So, you would not need hardware RAID.
Software RAID is controlled by the OS, if something happens to the OS, it may break the RAID. Hardware RAID is more like a BIOS level control. It works independent from your OS.
