For all the devoted Overnight fans out there, this is (in parts) the last Overnight broadcast, with Linda Ellerbee and Bill Schechner. In this part, say bye-bye.

  • It was great - THE model for how a network news hour should be.

The depth, analysis, and covering what others dared not touch.

A highly intelligent news show - not all predigested. Controversial topic? Cover both sides, exceedingly well, and each from their own perspectives (e.g. El Salvador).

    I still miss it.

  • the most tragic part of this cancellation was the retarded shit they replaced it with. i called up to curse out the poor girl at the switchboard about the phony baloney assholes taking up a good time slot, and she, quietly, let me know that everyone there behind the scenes felt the same way.

  • Hey, there's the lady from Nick News.

  • Possibly the most intelligent, best-written news show ever...

  • I used to watch this program when I was in college. I liked it.

  • WOW. I can't thank you enough for posting the entire final NBC Overnight. Wonderful find! Used to stay up to watch it every night, my 19th year. They had such a clear liberal bias, but were witty and intelligent enough that even I had to watch anyway. (Fortunately, leftists usually aren't this clever and quick.) I recorded this final episode on an old audio boombox. Thanks to you, at last, an impossible 27 years later, I have the video. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! And so it went.

  • Thank you Bill Schechner, thank you Linda Ellerbee and thank you Lloyd Dobyns.

  • We lost OVERNIGHT when I was 21 years old and watched this finale broadcast when I SHOULD have been in bed getting ready for classes the next day . I am not ashamed to say that now, at 47, I still shed a tear at this closing credit montage- especially when viewing the luminous brunette visage of Linda Ellerbee. Thanks.

  • In highschool I would work late in the evening on weeknights at a grocery store. Upon returning home I discovered NBC News Overnight. Upon seeing this now I realize just how much I miss this type of reporting. Linda Ellerbee deliver was soo spot on ...and the writing..well lets just say in the era of soundbites and instant news cycles....I miss the insightfulness of the prose.

  • To Neal Baker - A very pleasant man; why are there so few?

And To Pat Trese: I still have the copy about Grantland Rice & "how you play the game" that you read on the final night.

It is a treasure without price.
