Starting procedure and than smooth running of a U-Boot Diesel Engine (MWM RS 34 S) used in German Typ XXIII submarines and perviously as engines for electric generators on board of German battleships Bismark (ruffly 20 engines on board just for electric power generation!) ,Tirpitz and Gneisenau.
576 PS (HP) 6 Cylinder (18 L / Cylinder) 108 L capacity
0 - 2:39 prepairing for start

Dug through some old notes... Found the formula for rotational Horsepower from Torque and RPM
Horsepower = (Torque (measured in ft/lbs) X RPM ) divided by 5252 (conversion factor)

Off the top of my head, I can't tell you the exact formula for calculating horsepower from torque and RPM readings at the engine's crankshaft. Distance against time is velocity. You are correct in that torque is rotational force: 1 lb force, 1 ft from center of rotation equals 1 ft/lb torque. Where I work, we manufacture Dynamometers, which are tools for measuring engine output. We measure torque from the engine's crank against RPM and the computer tells us horsepower.

What I'm saying is there is no curve to this comparison at all. Whats the mathematical formula? Torque is defined as the force at any one point on the edge of a circle in the exact direction of the rotation multiplied by the radius.Isn't horsepower figured on distance and time in a straight line?

@Matt2chee
Horsepower IS directly correlated to torque. Torque at a given RPM is used to calculate horsepower. That is science, not an opinion.

Horsepower and torque are two different ratings there is no correlation between them. Don't try to mesh them together.

I think the guy talking was a mechanic stationed on a U-boat during ww2.

1 HP is merely 33,000 lbs/ft of torque per minute. Therefore, the higher the revs for a given torque, the greater the HP figure. Why does a Honda Civic S have 200 HP? Because it's measured at 6500 rpm, which is meaningless. Clamp the tires, and you couldn't break it free. Conversely, large slow-turning engines can move mountains, but don't brag about HP.
