Don was an engine driver at Saltley Loco in the 50s& 60s. I was priveliged to be his fireman, it was a pleasure to work with Don,a self taught man who could hold his own on most subjects.I think Don got bored after the passing of steam traction and left us for Bonny Scotland.

As a little boy, I always wanted to go and say "Hello" to the steam train driver when we got to our destination. I think I was a bloody nuisance!
