Buy this item at my online shop http://frankstechhelp.blogspot.com/p/franks-gadget-store.html

Visit my BlogSpot for more info on this video http://frankstechhelp.blogspot.com/2010/06/dakota-alert-dvr-01-pir-motion-det...

After further testing I discovered that you can also have the power supply plugged in and record at the same time which is nice for long term use in one location. Set it and forget it until something happens and you need to recover your footage.

The PIR sensor also works very well up to 20 feet and there are no miss-fires like on other regular motion detector cameras. Where a curtain blowing in the wind would normally activate the motion recording on cheaper units, this unit DOES NOT make that mistake because it's looking for body heat, not motion, very nice!

  • great video

what about one that sends you alerts to an email or texts your phone so when you are out of the home

    thanks

  • @kiddyuknot Check out some of the cameras and software on X10.com

  • its a pretty cool stand alone all in 1 dvr motion cam!! only problem is it looks like a cam n has no wall mount..i would like one that looks like a regular motion detector in a corner..one ? can you take the micro card out and watch it in your cell phone

  • @bosshogindog The card in the cell phones depends on your type of cell phone and what format it accepts. Great idea though, will have to do some testing. As for the mount, the camera uses a standard tripod mount thread, so you could mount a head to the wall and screw the camera into place. Just an idea.

  • how much did this product cost? n will u b able to tell when its recordin with all lights off?

  • @blade83336 It ran about $100 but you can get them for cheaper. Also YES, the IR's light up when all the lights are off so you can see when it's in standby, but only if you are looking directly at the unit, from a side angle it doesn't show so much, still a nice unit though.

  • Sounds like you have "HIde file extensions for known file-types" switched on.

So you created timecfg.txt.txt without knowing it.

Turn that setting off in Folder Options so you can actually see the actual filenames on your computer. Poor little default setting which allows easy execution of virus etc.

  • Question. I just bought one of these and the battery is a 3.7 v 240 mAh battery. Did you ever find out the charge times on these DVRs? Thank you!

  • Frank,

Does anyone make a HD model with a PIR?

  • Thank you for the review. I just brought this camera for my home. I have been have issues with a porch pirate.

  • i bought one and used it outside for construction site security, it easily zipties to a metal fence post and the ziptie covered the blinking lite. I didnt use it in the rain, just for short security time periods of a day or overnite on clear times, it did pick up a cat walking in front of it from about 14 feet away, I like this little unit and if it were waterproof i would mount it with a small battery connected to the usb cord and leave it for a week. but gonna buy a GLOBAL WATCHMAN next
