Charlie Bird Loves Flowers

My adopted Canary Wing Parakeet, Charlie, loves to nibble on flowers. He'll only chew carnations, and they must be fresh! I think he licks the nectar at the base of the petals.

It's fun to watch him relish this treat.

His buddy Jasper, a Pineapple Green-Cheeked Conure, just looks on. It's not his thing.

This is soo cute! But please be careful, store bought flowers contain silver nitrate to preserve their "freshness".

@ThistleBird1 - Yeah, I wondered about that. The "Flower Lady" at the store had no idea if or what was added. But... Charlie does love "noshing" on them!

It is so interesting to watch Charlie gnaw on just the end of the petals. He knew just what he wanted from that flower. He seemed so dissapointed he had finished it!! Where do you get your flowers from?

I just buy a bunch of carnations at Von's, a nearby grocery chain. They have a counter just for flowers. They are about $3 - $5 a bunch, depending on when they were delivered.

They do have some kind of preservative in them, to keep them from wilting. sometimes, Charlie turns his little nose up at this. But usually, if I rinse them off thoroughly, he relishes the treat.

Jasper once destroyed a whole bunch. Luckily, he got bored with that.
