The Tales of Uncle Remus, first released in 1947, featured Johnny Mercer, the Pied Pipers, and James Baskett as Uncle Remus.

  • @Cooltomorrowkid I'd have to watch the movie again to be sure, but it my be possibly they used the exact same recordings are they did in the film.

  • @ProbradIII - In the "Laughing Place" story on this recording you uploaded, Brer Rabbit's laughing sounds almost identical to that of James Baskett when he filled in for Johnny Lee in the corresponding scene in the movie, so it could have been him instead.

    Thanks, though!

  • @Cooltomorrowkid I do believe so. On the Songofthesouth website, it says "...featuring Johnny Mercer and the Pied Pipers, ...and original cast... James Baskett, Luana Patten, Bobby Driscoll. Music by Billy May and His Orchestra."

Johnny Lee isn't mentioned, but I think it can be assumed. Christian Willis (the owner of the site) is usually very thorough and credible in his research, and would probably had said otherwise if it wasn't so.

  • Do you know who played Brer Rabbit in these recordings? Was it Johnny Lee, like in the movie?
