  • @hotgirlsarehot Nope. Whatever it was, it was far more tactful, and probably from Klingon lore.

Not inane stupidity from a random person on the internet.

  • Picard called the Klingon a "smelly c*nt".

  • @Chromevod

The transporter to save money and time on doing shuttle shots every week, the Universal Translator lets them do an episode without explaining each time how they know the language.

  • @Chromevod

The computers are reprogrammed into English. The voice is changed to the standard Starfleet voice. There's even an episode where an old Cardassian virus is triggered, and the computer starts targetting non-Cardassians for attack.

Yes, there are plenty of scenes where they demonstrate alien languages, and of course they would know some, but the universal translator stands as the excuse why they seem to be able to understand everybody. Just like Gene Roddenberry invented

  • @Draknfyre Well I'd wager that Starfleet officers can probably speak Klingon/Romulan or the language of any major power in the quadrant. Diplomacy is a huge part of their job, it would make sense that they should know how to keep negotiations open in case of system failure. I mean, look at DS9, the systems are Cardassian, yet they seem to be able to read information from them without too much difficulty.

  • @OktoberSunset

It's specifically described in the TNG Technical Manual, so yes, that's where it's at. The instances where they don't have them is just so they don't have to spend an hour explaining how they figured out the language.

Now Ferengi, they have a universal translator in their ear. The episode "Little Green Men" showed them having to reset it.

  • @Draknfyre It can't be in their combadges, cos it totally still works in all the episodes where they loose the combadges. I don't think they even have a universal translator, they just stuck some babelfish in their ears.

  • 6 people have been PWNED in Klingon before.

  • @HUDJ0679790 On peut rien te cacher...

  • @Xerxes2005 Je soupçonne la présence d'un canadien français derrière ce profil hehehe.
