STM 3D scanning animation with Blender (preview)

An atomically sharp tip of a Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM) is modeled and animated with Blender. The 3D model shows the atoms (surface: gold (111), tip: Tungsten) as scaled balls. First the tip is approached to the surface then it is scanned in constant height mode. In such an experiment the STM image would show the tunneling current as a function of the place of the tip.
