Happy Birthday, Grams! Last week when Mom said you were visiting China next month, I asked her if you knew how to read or speak the Chinese. She said no, then she said oh God she doesn't know how to speak Chinese how does that walking corpse think she's going to get around once she's there ohhhhhhh, no baby, don't cry I'm not mad at you I was aiming at the wall behind you - it was an old glass anyway no don't pick it up you'll cut yourself what did i just say you'll cut yourself now there's blood on the hardwoods honey go out and play honey are your pants wet did you forget your pull-ups this morning oh Jesus Scott

So I got an idea - maybe I could help you learn the Chinese by creating a slideshow of the Chinese translation of your favorite songs. I'll start with that Raffi song you always sing whenever somebody calls Dad on his cell phone or when you see bananas in your stories and commercials on television or in the supermarket.

Unfortunately when I translated the lyrics into Chinese, I got that ridiculous Chinese writing, which i'm pretty sure you don't know how to read. but then I had the idea (It's so simple it's scary) to translate the wacky writing BACK TO English! That way you'll be able to learn the Chinese way of speaking without those confusing chicken scratch symbols.

So here you go, here's the first lesson - hopefully you'll be able to finish it before you have to leave, but if not then you can call me from the plane and I'll listen to you sing it and tell you what you got wrong. But don't forget that everyone's shorter than you in China so i suggest you sing loudly and look at the floor or your shoes while you're practicing.

Love Scott

PS. I apologize for creating this all in MS Windows, but it wasn't until this morning that I learned you are an open source / Linux person. Again, my apologies to you and Grampa Torvalds

  • lol!

  • nope! =D

  • Lol. Ding "dong" means east! Thats hilarious.

  • It will be different for sure... how can u translate some text without any distortion, especially for lyrics or poem? The two languages r too different that no computer program can successfully translate them yet. (If there's any, woohoo! wonderful world! no second language required in schools anymore!) You can test this by urself- pick any Chinese webpage and use google tool or whatever to "translate" it, see if u can understand the words...

  • This /am/ best. LOL

    Was an online translator used?

It would explain the bad grammar and "Ding east ding east ding east ding Danana telephone". East...

Am I the only one amused by this?

  • Why don't you understand that xDxD
