  • @australianews You are not smelling the Asbestos you are smelling what binds it together.

  • They do not, because THEY DO NOT CARE. they are cannibals. They are selling defective James Hardie fiber cement boards. I called them hundreds of times and they refuse to come take a look at their defective product. STAY A WAY from James hardie. Punish them by NOT buyin g their products and write to them. Let them know what you think.

  • 3) The percentage of asbestos within most asbestos products is usually less than 30% (floor tiles, break linings, artex, toilet cisterns, cement products and insualtion boards). Certain types of pipe insulation has a much higher concentration of asbestos in it. And, on the occasions i was in the presece of pipe insulation, I couldn't smell that either.

Bottom line is that it does not smell. You can smell what it is mixed with and have made the association.

    Cheers.

  • Apologies for delayed response,

    1) Only a numptee would take a mask off in the presence of airborne respirable asbestos fibres. the particle size of the filter lets odours in though and there was never any odour other than general construction site.

    2) No, have never breathed in cloud of it. Have probably inhaled the fibres that you can't see. That's almost inevitable within the industry even today - hence why i got out as soon as I could.

    continues....

  • The dust smells like the way brakes use to smell on cars and trams before it was banned .

Did you ever take your mask off when removing it ?

Did you ever breath in a cloud of it?

Believe me it has a smell or taste in it if you like.

Bricks dont smell either grind them into dust and breath in a cloud of it then tell me they dont have a smell or taste.

  • Alright mate,

Just to let you know that you can't smell asbestos! I used to work in asbestos removal as an analyst doing air tests. The fibres that hurt you are so small that they can only be seen by microscope and resemble small needles. These are what get passed all your bodies natural respiratorial defences and lodge themselves in your lungs for eternity.

    Asbestos is everywhere!!!!!!

Like with smoking it's pot luck as to how much accumulation will result in illness.

    Keep smiling!

  • I know i have handled the shit when i was young .

I also worked in a building that had asbestos roofing and when you swept the floors you could smell it in the dust.

Sweep the floors and a day or two later the same amount of dust would be there again.

I dont think there would be many people that have not come into contact with it.
