The British Lions are unique in sport - the only team chosen to play exclusively away from home.

The team is selected from the best footballers in England,Wales, Scotland and Ireland and tour every four or so years to either South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand, so a tour to New Zealand in the professional era is a very rare occurrence (approx every 12 years).

From 1888 The British have toured New Zealand; with the Lions proper touring since 1930 through to 2005 to continue a 117-year history of the Mother Countries visiting her most far-flung foot balling protégé.

Of all the teams and of all the history of rugby being played in New Zealand, the British Lions are the publics' favourites, nearly a third of the country (800,000 out of 2500000 Kiwis) paid to watch them play in 1959, they are traditionally the toughest, fastest, talented teams and the only team that has ever been cheered by New Zealanders against the All Blacks!

All this history is magnified from it's past as The Mighty Pride illustrates the combative and brilliant competition between the best of the British and New Zealand sporting heroes.
