Like 'We Can Work It Out' and 'Getting Better', this 50/50 Lennon-McCartney co-composition from 1968 demonstrates the contrasting personalities of the two authors - McCartney's breezy optimism against Lennon's sly pessimism.

  • This is a superb mash up. It's amazing, and it never occurred to me in 41 years of owning this incredible double album, how these two side by side tracks could be so united. Brilliant work. Sometimes birthdays are tinged with the blues and sadness like Christmas. Very clever indeed.

  • Thanks!

  • How did you realise this would work. Are the songs both in the same key?

  • Nope. Birthday is in A and Yer Blues is in E. I had to re-order the Birthday chords to sound like a 12-bar in E. If you listen to Paul, he's actually out of key with the music now!

  • Sounds like John was having a pretty shitty birthday!

  • lol. It's like John's depressed, and Paul's trying to cheer him up. He doesn't seem to be helping.

  • Cold Turkey Birthday?

  • I'm going to play this on my birthday, March, 2012, when I turn 50!

  • I miss John, I miss George, I miss these guys never getting back together. I can only imagine what music they'd be making now that it's "okay" for bands to reunite for an album or a tour or whatever.

Keep on Rockin in the Free (and not so free) world, Paul.

John, George, rest in peace! I'll see you on the other side again in a twinkle of an eye, and cannot wait until then! I wanna hear you play music with the best of the best!

  • lol, I always thought it was ironic how both of these songs play one after the other in the White album! A song about suicide after a song about birthdays and dancing! HAHAHAH

  • Poor John, I'd hug him <3

  • Eh... I give it a 4 out of 10.

  • @rockman1754 come on man. Don't be an idiot
