Following on from our previous tutorials, David shows how to make a simple 3D animated title using a background, a camera, lights and basic keyframing.

The process starts with placing some text on the canvas and getting the size and positioning right. Then, we place a background behind the text and change its colour. We add a camera and two lights to the scene to create a drop shadow on the background, and move the camera to show a perspective view of our title and background. Lastly, we animate the camera in a simple movement to add a perspective change.

If you have anything specific you want to learn, leave me a comment and I'll find out for you!

  • Thank You so Much Dave!

I would like to be able to do a Earth globe and zoom in to a town with Final Cut Pro X... I do have Motion 5 to...is there a plug in, or a way to do this?

That is if you have the time...thank You in advance! :) My name is Ronaldo.

  • @RondoLarsen Hi Ronaldo, I believe shots like that are made up of many layers of images composited together - Satellite, aerial at various reoslutions and then sometimes crane shots depending on how low you want to go. You'll could start with the highest resolution satellite and aerial shots you can find, place them in 3D space in motion 5 and then move the camera towards them. For the globe effect you might be better to start with an image of a globe because Motion isn't really 3D.

  • Can motions 5 make backgrounds for green screen

  • @mbvideos314 Yes! I'll be showing that in the next video...

  • Yes, but's it's not really meant for that. Editing software has better tools for manipulating time and transitions between clips, and better media management. But, at a push Motion 5 will edit videos together. It will probably just take a bit longer to get a good result.

  • Yes. You would need to break the lyrics up into phrases and create a separate line on the timeline for each (duplicate the first one and change the text). Then stagger them in time so they appear at the right time in the song. You could apply effects too if you wanted to...
