The Dolomiten Mann is the hardest outdoor relay. on the planet. 110 teams compete, featuring 440 athletes. The race is a 50 km course covering 3000 vertical metres. It's a race against the clock and against each other. The relay boasts over 4 hours of grueling competition. The race begins in Lienz, Austria.
The first section of the relay is the intense running portion. Starting in the village of Lienz, runners must make the ascent up the mountains, covering 1700 meters. At the top, runners hand off to the para gliders.
After the first jump, there is another 500 meter run to the next take off station follows. After that they'll sore down into the town of Leisach, where they hand over to the kayakers, who have two selective segments to overcome:starting with a tight 1000 metre slalom course against the raging current in the river Drau. After that a short portage segment leaves them to the river Isel for a quick downwater run to the final changeover.
Finally the mountain bikers take the final 12 kilometers and 1300 vertical meters that leads them over a roller coaster course. Through narrow woods and steep sections where they have to shoulder their bikes to blistering downhills on tight switchbacks. Only the strong survive!!!
