This is a segment of a forum for gay and lesbian Catholic youth held during the World Youth Day week in Sydney July 2008. Presented by GLBT Catholic support group Acceptance Sydney (www.gaycatholic.com.au), the forum asks the rhetorical question "Is there a place for gay and lesbian Catholic youth in the Church?". Speakers included a parent couple with two gay sons, a youth worker from a GLBT support agency, a young gay Catholic guy and a Jesuit priest. A short play, "Boys Don't Cry", was also presented. Due to video limitations we have had to split the broadcast into 10 clips representing the 6 speakers involved in the forum. Acceptance Sydney's mission statement is to provide a safe, spiritual and social environment for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Catholics their family and friends.

  • Who in their right mind would want anything to do with the Catholic anything? Catholicism is a fraud, it's not Christian, they rape children, pray to dead people, babtise babies, collect huge amounts of money they spend on themselves, refuse to marry women, give advice on family planning. If you're being banned by the Catholic hierarchy take it as a compliment!

  • @cloverfield911 well I dont think the church can change that teaching, the gays are free to leave if they want to have same-sex relations and the church should have no problem for that

  • There is a dirty, back stabbing cult....with all the power and all the money... who claim the sole right to interpret/.....Cath/olic doctr/ine. This cult (who claim mainstream status do to their money and power... protect the supremacy of money...and those who "have money"

  • Christians probably MOST exemplify the often drastically differing viewpoints people have. Personally, Im glad it's up to God ALONE to decide who's beliefs are the right ones.

  • This priest has departed from the solemn teaching of the Church. He can rationalize as he pleases, but there is no way that homosexual acts are ever approved by God or His Church.

  • The Catholic Church condemns pre-martial sex among ALL people, gay or straight, yet straight people have premarital sex all of the time and are not excluded from the church or told that their love is intrinsically disordered. Because gay people cannot be married in the church, their sexual activities are viewed as "pre-marital," no matter if they have been in a 10 year monogamous relationship. It is my belief that GLBTQ Catholics can have sacred and holy partnerships before God.

  • But this is exactly the problem, cloverfield911. We should we, gay catholics, stay in forced ceilbacy (not having the sexual act of same-sex relationship), when it was not our free choice? We don´t wanna stay alone for all the life, we also wanna have partners. That´s the problem.

  • I think that this is a false evaluation of hoe the Catholic church views gays and lesbians. The church is totaly welcoming of people of all sexual oriantation, but dose not and will not condone the sexual act of same-sex relationships. Dose anybody understand that?
