Featured is a sound clip of 8974, a 1989 Flxible Metro B series Transit Bus with a Detroit Diesel 6V92 Engine. At 20 years old, it is the 2nd oldest bus in service for the Maryland Transit Administration.

  • WOW! Lot's of rattling! You can definitely hear the age in this bus. Also, it sounds much like a GM or MCI Classic with 6V92TA.

    Yeah...MTA wasn't the best at keeping buses in good condition like a certain Canadian property in the west.

  • Are those retired as of 2/2010?

  • 8974 was retired in July of 2009

  • Per my first comment on this, I also have to add that even some Metro A's (as well as few Grumman Flxible 870s) have that dark hum to it.

  • It may be a Metro-B but the exhaust puts out that deep, dark hum, which to some bus fanatics is called the "Thermo King effect" or, as I like to call it, the "Gillig effect," turns up here, making it sound more like a Metro C/D/E.
