@richardshapiroII Well, my thoughts exactly! Just reread the M.A. mag. in wich i thought i read it and it turns out i misunderstood the article. Translation error! My bad!

i do pao before heng, too, thats the classic constructive order. I also like to use a cycle of heng-beng-tsuan-Pi-Pao-Heng it's building up the organs from bottom to top, then back to bottom. . for martial use, you need to be able to do them in any order, in any rhythm, while adjusting the distancing and direction.
also, good to know the "controlling" cycle, to know what element to use to counter. like rock/paper/scissors.

that just doesn't make any sense to me.
historically, I can't say.
but thats kinda like saying that the english language didn't have g-r in the original style, 5 elements isn't just a movement set, it's the foundation movement patterns that the style uses for everything. it's kinda like taking the reverse punch out of karate.
Im wondering what you read said about what they did practice, if not 5 elements?

@3rdEyeBlinking that's news to me. i thought they were the basis as well. but shanxi style is a little foreign to me.

The dude is awesome... This is a guy that's got his sh.. together, most def.
Just read somewhere that the 5 elements are actually something added later on to Hsing Yi, and the original Shanxi did not contain them.... I allways thought that 5 elements was the absolute basis... Anyone no anything 'bout it?
hands down, the best video about the 5 elements i have seen on youtube.
