This was written by the brothers John and Reb Spikes in 1919, and recorded twice by Jelly Roll Morton in the 1920s. I love Morton's sound and I've tried to get a bit of that 1920s feel into the arrangement ,which is for tenor guitar, rhythm 6-string guitar and acoustic bass guitar.

  • This is a wonderful tune, which also gets an "added value" with this guitar performance !

Greetings from Nisse in Sweden !

  • @tupphenning Thanks! It's a great tune - timeless... :-)

  • this is amazing! i wish you were my grandpa.. :)

  • Ta! Well, I've got one grandson - and another expected any time now - join the club! :-)

  • I love the guitars you use on this... any chance you could tell us what they are?

  • The backing guitar, which also takes the lead on the 2nd chorus, is a Martin XC1T. The main guitar is a custom tenor (4-string) guitar tuned C-G-D-A (4,3,2,1) made for me by a luthier called Ian Chisholm. The bass line is from a Tanglewood acoustic bass. The bass was DI'd into my 8-track, and the two guitars were recorded acoustically using a Shure SM58. ;-)
