I created this video / pic compilation in memory of the Great Jerry Holland. Thanks for the music.
I spent the summer of 2008 in my birth province (Nova Scotia). These pics and video were captured in early August in Cape Breton. I found out there was but ONE weekly session in Cape Breton and by hook or by crook I was going to get to it. It happens at Rollies Wharf Pub and it's apparently not unusual for truly amazing musicians to come by for some tunes. I was blessed to play in the session with Jerry Holland, Doug MacPhee , Paul Cranford, Larry Parks, Erin Dempsey and many others who all made me feel so welcomed. Thank you for a wonderful night. Wish I lived there and I'd be at every session with you.
I was amazed how everyone but everyone seems to know how to step dance. One after the other got up to amaze the crowds. I think maybe everyone comes out of the womb just a steppin' up a storm.
I'm SO thankful I got to meet and play tunes with the great Jerry Holland. Jerry, one of Cape Breton's master fiddlers has just passed away. I wouldn't be surprised if he's now playing in the big session in heaven. What a kind and wonderful man. You will be remembered forever in your amazing music.
Thanks Mom for doing some of the videoing while I played.
Wouldanyone know if this Jerry Holland ever visited people in West Bridgewater,MA? I cab remember a fellow who would come to my house and play fiddle like crazy. He would visit my mother, Alice Cobbett? This would have around the late 50's and early 60's///just a young fella then.

The day we drove to Cape Breton last summer (2009) was the day we heard about Jerry Holland's death. We saw him live in 2008 at the Normaway Fiddle night. It's too bad he's gone.
What a great evening you had in CB, Deb. Thanks for posting the video. I loved the piano backing every tune.

with that amount of talent, the entire Cape has only ONE weekly sess? weird. Nice work Deb. A great man, remembered the way he should be-- through the music and the community the music made.
