OPEN YOUR EYES PEOPLE! This shows our first impressions and misconceptions. The child is society as a whole. We run from the most innocent of things when perceived incorrectly! The Old man represents a people we know nothing about, the LARGE pile of hay is his customs and history the man has to offer, the small donkey pulling the cart is time. Once we see that there is no real threat we run to catch a ride. We try to make amends to those we have offended, but now it is too late, time moves on.

The boy's parents represent his/our own beliefs & teachings... If the boy was taught correctly he would have never been frightened in the first place.
