You know for the longest time (and I mean a REAL long time), during the main game I always thought the Joker Wild Card was a hat. It wasn't until looking closer up that it's actually a person doing a really uncomfortable handstand.
One of the funny things is when Jack Barry asks them if they can both come back tomorrow. The next show is taped immediately following this one as they would tape a whole week in one day. This is a leftover from Jack Barry used to host live weekly game shows.
Plus I think the game dragged a little at first because it was the first show. Unlike now, when we all know how to play TJW, no one did when this first aired so it had to be played slowly at first so the public could learn the rules.
I like the fact that they sped things up later on, the show dragged on a little too much. But yeah, gamshwfan is right. Jack Barry started his climb back into the game show Parthenon w/ this show, probably one of the 10 greatest game shows ever.
I must say this is where Jack Barry's comeback began. The Joker's Wild is an amazing combonation of luck and knowledge. Some good moments occured in the premire such as: two close calls with triple jokers and Ed becoming the first ever champion on The Joker's Wild. It may be a little bit irregular to have this kind of playing on daytime game shows but it worked at the time. One way or another; September 4th 1972 would be a day that nobdy watching CBS would ever forget. 5 star day.
Although the first show to make it to air when they reteamed was "Break the Bank" in 1976, they actually reteamed a year earlier, soon after the CBS TJW was canceled, in the form of an unsold pilot called "We've Got Your Number".
