Composers aren't always the best Singers of their own Songs.I'm thinking of my musical Hero Burt Bacharach

I had heard the name Ogden Nash (the lyricist) many times, but was unfamiliar with his work as he was a bit before my time. A quick trip to wikipedia informed me that his poetic insights include "Candy is dandy but liquor is quicker" and "When called by a panther, don't anther."

Nice one Mr. Klein! But fascinating all the same the accent adds a little to the song. German speakers performing this in English are somehow the best - Lenya, Lemper etc., .

The lyrics aren't by Ira Gershwin. They were written by the American poet Ogden Nash for the Broadway musical "One Touch of Venus." Mary Martin got her big break on Broadway as the statue of Venus who comes alive.

Beautiful

Why on earth did you cut the song short? The full recording contains the superb middle-eight. Sigh.

Einmalig! Ein Erlebnis der besonderen Art!

Geez, his voice wasn't that bad! And a person doesn't have to have a great voice to compose beautiful vocal music.
This is absolutely one of the best versions of this song I've heard. Unfortunately it lasts for only a curt while.
