Pimp My PPro Rig - A surprise appearance by somebody who seems to be Kush's evil rap cousin explains the gear needed to run Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 & shows off his own gear.

Transcript:

Yo, this is your man V.J. K to the U to the S H H. V as in video and J as in as in err as in genius! Yea! and I will be lip syncing to the voice of the original Kush and I'm gonna talk about all the bling bling you need to run Adobe Premiere pro.

A lot of people asked me what sort of computer to use for editing video. Some of you even asked if its better to use Macs or PCs and some even asked what sort of rig I have. So lets take a walk along our very own computer hall of fame. Or the hall of shame as in I'm ashamed to admit I'm old enough to remember that thing. Nah, this ant it. Ahh.. this was my first computer. It was so high tech I had to install a new microchip if I wanted my word processor to check my spelling and one thing I suck at is spelling. Nope this aint it either, even my grandma's gold fish had more ram than that! Ok now we are getting closer but just to be sure lets look at the official Adobe recommended hardware specs.

So let me lay down the 420 for you err I mean 411. I was never good with numbers. Arrght for PCs with intel pentium 4 processors, it has to be 1.4GHz for DV or standard definition video and 3.4GHz for HDV or high def. And if its a Xeon or Centrino processor a dual 2.8GHz would do for HDV. Or you could go for an intel core duo or compatible but if you go AMD make sure it is SSE2 enabled. Now if you are a Mac user, you would want to stick with an intel based multi core system.

As for ram, for both macs and PCs you should have 1Gb for DV and 2Gb for HDV and HD. They are not the same thing by the way.

Videos eat up disk space faster than my hummer drink up gas. You need 10Gigs of free hard disk space plus more during the installation and that is just for the program. Your videos are better off having their own dedicated 7200 RPM hard drive for DV and HDV and a stripped disc array for HD. Nothing excites me more than hearing the words RPM and stripping in the same sentence! yea!!

For the graphics, get a monitor that can do 1280 by 1024 or 1280 by 960 for those wide screen macs. For a list of Adobe recommended graphics cards go to this site.

As you can see Adobe makes Premiere Pro for PCs or Macs and it's entirely up to you to decide.

So those are the basics, now comes my favorite part, I'm going to show what's under my hood. Well actually I'm gonna show whats under my table! What do I have under the table? My computer of course! What were you thinking? Ahhhh not to fast ladies.... and gentlemen.

My rig is about two years old now so it's not as pimped as I would like it to be. But first, do I use macs or PCs? Well guess what, when it comes to computers I am polygamous to the max! I get the best of both worlds and the weaknesses of none. Or maybe that works only for vampires so I get the worst of both worlds too.

Both my rigs are 8 cylinder baby.. i mean core. With 8Gigs of ram and dual nvidia 8800s with 768 megs of RAM each! so thats nealy one and a half of gigs just on the video cards. Now many people brag about how many inches their ...eh ehm is. I mean rims of their wheels but what I have to brag about is my monitors. 72inches combined baby.. try putting that behind your headrest mr. X to the Z! ha!

And of course I lost count of how many terra bytes of disk space I have ... and I already used up.

Ok so maybe you need all that just for video because I do all kinds of other stuff with my rig that I don't want to talk about. So there you have it. You asked for it and you go it.

If you got something to ask the guys who make Adobe stuff, just ask it in a video and share it on acrobat.com or just email your text or images to ask@adobe.com. aaaaght

This is V. J. K to the U to the S H H and you have just been loaded. Wait wrong show. I mean you'v just been Adobefied!

Why can't I say bugger on adobe TV. Come on its not a bad word. Bugger just means bugger and if you are a person who likes to bug then you are a bugger.
