Footage from Elvis: That's the Way It Is

Known for creating one of the most authentic looks for an Elvis performance: from the charisma and good humor both on stage and off, to the song arrangement, the hairstyles, clothing, and (most importantly) the voice, Rick Saucedo remains one of the most respected and successful ETAs. Upon emerging in 1972, after being one of the most popular, well-known, thriving ETAs of the 1970's and '80s with numerous Vegas appearances, coast-to-coast tours, and a five month engagement on Broadway, Rick Saucedo ended his U.S. touring and Vegas engagements to form a centralized career in the Midwest. In addition to his ETA work, he is becoming more recognized today for his original songwriting. Fans can still catch Rick at one of his over-100 performances each year, mostly in Illinois and Indiana, but on occasion: Wisconsin, and Tennessee.

  • I have to agree on two sides of the coin. For one,..Rick has a Great vocal sound, and while in a way, I like the updated sound, because the band IS tight,..but I think if it is performed while in the Elvis suit, the band should be trying their damnedest to recreate the sound. This sounds like a Heavy metal version by the end of the song. And any guitarist can play some fast licks, but try to recreate that awesomely unique Scotty Moore solo,..now that's a guitarist I could respect!

  • Rick would be the first person to agree with you. He's played with Scotty and loves the guy's playing and has a big respect for him, but this was just part of a series of versions updated in the '80s. The video above is actually overdubbed. That's not Rick actually singing the song, because he hardly performs this version unless he's doing something more tuned towards his own music instead of Elvis', because as you mentioned, it's not geared for a '70s show. Although it makes a cool video.

  • Loved the begining, didn't know what to expect, seeing Rick enter the stage with the body guards was cool. Well done !

Not sure if I agree with having Elvis in this video tho, nevetheless you did a pretty good job of editing Tom.

I should point out too, I like the update Rick gave to the song "Too Much" Great job over all.

  • just trying something different...it was more intended to be rick rockin' the song to an echo of elvis rockin', almost like the two rockin' together. i may try something different, maybe like this but with both elvis and rick singing the same song, that might be interesting

  • Just a clarificaton, of course, but this isn't to improve anything. In the '80s, Rick was part of band called Redwing, which performed their own original music and would occasionally include '80s versions of songs made famous by Elvis, Lennon, McCartney, and others artists. That's where this song comes from, it's not meant to be a copy or imitation or improvement of the song, but a modernized (in this case - 1980's) take on a tribute to the "music" of the artists. Hope it makes sense.

  • Rick I've enjoyed your Elvis act....for years.... but this is not good....sorry.... You can sound more like Elvis... and changing the way Elvis did the song is not what an Elvis fan wants.... "YOU" cant improve on perfection...

Maybe do songs E never did and it might work....

But to have the outfit, hair, suit and moves and then do this.....sorry.....

  • thank you

  • excellent!!!!!!!5 stars
