Simple - rebate $2000 on every 1040 ONLY THEN tax gas $2.00 per gallon and then let the consumer make the choice.
Buy a Yaris or Prius - save $1000 a year,
drive a Hummer spend $2000 extra a year
Walk to work or share a ride - save $2000

The ONLY way gas prices will permanently decrease is if we stop buying it!!

You can be sure of one thing, at our current rate of consumption and with growing economies in China and India, .. this problem is only going to get WORSE!

We simply must get off oil. It's not worth it anymore.

the fact is we need to drill for oil in this country in anwar off the coast anywere there is oil. That is the only thing that will bring down gas prices.

Gas is the law a supply and demand... when the gass price get cut, people buy more... my friend, have you taken any economic class before? Gas cannot be treated as regular supply and demand laws because it's a NECESSITY item. it's an inelastic demand; the price is not driven by how many people buy the gas or not! Politics give more impact than consumers!!!! Please go back to your high school economic book...

Hey buddy, US is already decreasing it's oil consumption, due to high gas prices. I don't take road trips at $4.00 a gallon gas. At $6.00 a gallon gas, I'm stuck at home. At $1.00 a gallon gas, I'd drive cross country.

First they say it not that much, maybe a half a tank of gas, 10 gallons over 3 months. Then they say I'm going to buy a lot more (10 gal. over 3 months). Than they say I'm going to do a lot of joyriding (10 gal. over 3 months). Buy wait, didn't they say it's not that much, just a half a tank of gas. Wait again, I have to drive the same distant to work and to the store and to the school for my kids. But wait, it's only half a tank of gas.

No its not better than nothing, because it will push prices higher than they would have been and that 18 cents a gallon will be erased! Then you will see over one hundred thousand construction jobs lost this summer. So, no, actually its not better than nothing. In fact, this is a dirty gimmick. Neither McCain or Hillary are president and this wont happen this year anyways. Hillary says she will pay for it with a windfall profit tax, but she already has that spent!
