Julia Butterfly Hill is known for climbing a 1,000 year-old redwood tree in 1997 when she was 23 years old, and remaining there without touching the ground for two years, as part of a successful effort to call worldwide attention to the destruction of California's ancient redwoods. Since then, she has addressed the U.N., lobbied Congress, and continued to stand on the front lines of environmental and social justice issues all over the world. She is the author of The Legacy of Luna: The Story of a Tree, a Woman and the Struggle to Save the Redwoods and One Makes the Difference: Inspiring Actions That Change Our World.
Its funny how blind people are to their own blindness---below, a commentator, full of anger, says that Julia Hill and "her other co-horts...all have one thing in comon: their rich, white parents work for the 'big, greedy, evil' corporations". I guess he missed Julia mentioning that her father was a preacher---they don't usually work for corporations.

Big Logging corporations have conducted their business of destroying Old Growth forests for decades, and would have removed every single tree if nobody stepped in. Decades ago, they were clear cutting their "seed crops" and failing to plant new trees, an unsustainable business or agriculture practice. Activism has led to them planting new seedlings that can be harvested responsibly. Your problem with that?

She's not self-sufficient: friends and family routinely delivered meals, clothes, and other amenities to her while she was up in that tree. The platform she lived on while up there was made of wood (hypocrite!). She and her other co-horts (so-called "environmentalists") all have one thing in common: their rich, white parents work for the "big, greedy, evil" corporations so they can pay for their dumb-shit (and umemployable) kids to hold rallies and/or live up in trees for 2 years.
