@Hallo33able But to say that you'll vote for a Republican (and most of the "Evangelical" candidates are out of touch with reality and are a danger to this country if you ask me) just because Cenk was overbearing here is just completely unwise. If you watch Cenk regularly, he doesn't necessarily hate religion. He does believe a lot of it is mythology (which could be valid in some senses, but perhaps not in totality), but he doesn't hate religious people. But he does hate deceit in religion.
@Hallo33able ...That's an idiotic reason to consider voting Republican. I can tell you that Newcombe (despite his being a "Doctor of Divinity") is spreading lies about Christianity to suit his own political agenda. Note that I'm not even Christian (I'm agnostic, on the verge of being an atheist) and I'm offended by Newcombe's assertions. He's not being shrewd or diligent in his study of the Bible at all. That being said, Cenk definitely isn't completely without blame here. They both have biases.
(3/2... ran out of room X_X) But let's put it this way. Based on what the Gospels say about helping the poor and service to your brother/neighbor being the same as service to God, Newcombe is absolutely ignorant to claim that the message of the Gospels isn't socialist. It's practically identical to what we know as socialism (not the American distortion of the word). But Cenk did seem to just want bash this guy for being a (I assume) literalist/fundamental Christian. So some blame falls on both.
(2/2) However, I do think that Cenk was a bit overbearing here. He definitely has a bias too. But I think that Cenk is more on the side of reason. If Newcombe really believes that the principle of sola scriptura has any real credit, he's buying into a fraud. And he's wrong about the gospels too. They WERE written around 70 years or so after Jesus's death. Many scholars (I unfortunately have no specific names/sources) that it was written at least a half century after Jesus's death.
(1/2) I think that Cenk overstretches things a little bit when he says that Jesus is a mythological character. I think that the historical and archaeological does provide some evidence for Jesus as a "historical character." However, I don't really have any extensive experience (only one course at a Jesuit college on contexts in the Old Testament) to rely on so I'm split on that. But, I do think that what Newcombe is doing is what Cenk is accusing him of. He's letting his biases sneak in there.
Newcombe threatens Jake at 15:50. Is he implying that Jake deserves eternal punishment for not honoring Newcombe's version of a apocalyptic sub-sect of Judaism. What could be more immoral than threatening in this way?
This is why I can't stand the standard Christian doctors of theology. They are all morally bankrupted.

Newcombe is missing the point regarding archeologic record.
All evidence we have is that Jesus was born in Nasereth, not Bethlahem (record altered to reconcile with OT). The Exodus is not in evidence anywhere.
... and God should be guilty of far more abortions than all humanity.
Newcombe is trying to speak for God. Shame on him.
