Some of our livestock guardian dogs, Akbash, Akbash/Great pyrenees cross and Anatolian Shepherds. Born in the field with the goats, they are part of the herd. They stay with the goats 24/7. They are gentle, loyal, loving dogs with a very independent nature.

  • i have nigerian dwarf goats and i'm intrested in a guardian dog, which do you prefer, one of my friends has a kuvasz and the other has a pyreness

  • I like the akbash or the anatolian shepherd dogs. With nigerians, you should consider an older mature dog.

  • @sonya610 @sonya610 Never said I was a breeder. Never asked the public to rush out and buy them. Never promoted them as a pet dog.

So, looks like I won't be going to THAT special place.

My guardians are gentle and will take orders. Just have to be the right order and delivered the right way. Not like my herding dogs at all, but LGD style.

  • I am looking fora dog that will protect my family as well as my stock as both are in close proximity i need a loyal guardian that I can trust with my children

  • @j0hnxjxrambo Both. LGDs are mostly for outside use. They eat and sleep outside even in freezing winter temperatures of North America for they are capable of doing that. However, in cases where livestock is moved in barns for overnight, dogs may also move into buildings. I own a Kuvasz, who is only 4 months old and has begun to explore our backyard now. He hardly wants to come in.

  • @Cuvac But i like my staffys :(

  • @bluegama500

    Still will be nasty.

Why dont you just get rid of your " staffies"

    Problem solved.. ;)

  • Lol thats what i was starting to think, thats why i haven't bought a new dog so far.I guess i'll just buy chickens and try to make my staffys get used to them, but i doubt they will. They kill any thing that moves lol

  • that may be, but staffs are bred to not give up easily, and pyrs are bred to protect against predators, including wolves and bears, it would really be better to train your staffs to leave them alone than bring in another dog to do this for you, it would most likely end up badly for the dogs

  • Anatolians are very smart and I have one who protects chickens along with some other animals. He is a great guard and he is just a year old.

  • one nasty dog fight?aren't LGD's much stronger than staffies?

  • Yes a LGD would protect chickens if raised with them but most likely you are talking one bad dog fight. LGDs take the side of whatever beast they are protecting over all others...except their masters..usually.
