Here is a little test I made using the new Normality plug-in for After Effects. If you don't know about it, you can check it out at here: www.minning.de with a tutorial over at videocopilot.net. The plug-in is free at the moment and is pretty awesome.
It uses Normal maps to help relight a pre-rendered 3D model or to add lighting to 2D images, once they've been normalised. It does awesome reflections and refractions as well. It's very, very cool and well worth checking out.
So take a peek, my 3D model is very rough and unfinished, plus I'm new to Maya so I'm still finding my style. It's err ... a beast with big hands and no teeth! But it's being re-lit in 2D from a rendered 3D animation - that's the cool bit!!!

  • Yeah I tried it, not true 3d light, only fake, but it's still awesome.

  • XD You call it a "basic model" when it's totally pimped out and awesome. I wish I was that good at Maya!
