@1983parrothead I completely agree. But I get the feeling that the MD port was probably made with the PAL region in mind. When I played Truxton MD on an emulator with the PAL region instead of NTSC, the game slows down and the tempos are closer to the original arcade (especially for "Sally" which sounds like a mess compared to the arcade/PCE version).
Arcade - The one that started it all, and my favorite. It's the true voice of Toaplan.
MD / GEN - Least accurate port, despite reprogrammed for a platform that's like a cheaper version of an arcade PCB. The fast tempo makes it lose against the other two versions. Anyone who prefers this version over the other two most likely live in Europe.
PCE / TG16 - Despite having the weakest instruments, its stereo feature, percussion bass and near arcade accurate tempo makes it beat the MD / GEN port.
@NeoGeoNinja Yeah the PCE version is my favourite to listen as is, but when playing the game the sampled sounds are cutting constantly making it more annoying than anything else.
The arcade cabinet of this game had incredible sound. The version I used to play in 1989 had sub-woofers and would nearly blow my head off after I inserted my 40 cents.
truxton, double dragon, bad dudes, shinobi, buzzard, midnight resistance, cabal, green beret... could spend a couple of hours playing with only $2 in my pocket. I'd walk in and the lady would say "Two Dollars worth of twenty's?" I'd say "Of course" man I loved that old dingy arcade :(
I play the stage 1 theme myself on keyboard and usually play at the arcade versions tempo but after playing through once I'll gradually speed up to try to play the Mega drive versions super fast tempo. I might post it one day.

I kind of like the PC-Engine's sound the best.
