The New Concord Quaker Meeting House Under Construction

On May 22, 2010, the All New Hampshire Friends Gathering was held in Canterbury NH,and afterward we got into cars and went to see the new meeting house, also in Canterbury. The orignal plan was for a large octagon, but that proved too expensive, since priority was being given to energy-efficiency over looks, and a conventional exterior was chosen. The Meeting room, however, is somewhat octagonal, leaving tiny triangular spaces that may serve as closets and alcoves. The thick insulation, Swedish wood-pellet furnace and heat exchanger, with radiant heat from pipes in the concrete floor make heating the building in winter a snap,
