Saw the "Neville staples" specials at reading in 96 and they were fucking brilliant! having said that, saw nev at rebellion aa couple of years ago and he was just going through the motions. Can`t wait till brixton tho!
Neville's biography will be out in time for the April reunion tour of The Specials this year. It is called 'Original Rude Boy'. I can tell you that it's got some great exclusive stories on the 2-Tone era. Ranking Roger and Pauline Black have contributed to the book as have some of the Third Wave American ska bands.
Moonstomp, you missed the 1st reunion. 1996 and 1998 saw 2 more studio records by the band. The 1996 effort was a sad rendition of a more electronic based sound while guilty till proven innocent was a fair record (but still 100x better than Special AKA). The collective was essentially the complete band minus Jerry Dammers, Terry Hall and John Bradbury. From what I was told, Jerry and Terry had no interest while not sure what Bradbury was up to as he previously recorded with the Special Beat.
I Hope the whole band do not reform. The Specials were the best band ever in their time. It is always shit when you go to watch an old band what have reformed years later. It is never the same, look at the pistols in 1996,A brilliant band in their day but they made total twats of themselves in 96. Hope The Specials dont do the same. They should be rememberd as they were.
