  • I worked with Bernstein also. A great conductor for sure, but not - to my way of thinking - in the same league as Abbado

  • @dollynapattaya except for Lenny :)

  • @gera1262 and I'm a staunch Christian and there's no reason why I can't have Mahler as my idol too. I read into the music my own feelings as many people do. Mahler's composition was not a selfish inward composition as he wrote for all of us to ENJOY it in whatever we choose.

  • I was privileged to work with Abbado for several years. This video reminds me just how great a conductor he was and is and always will be to those fortunate enough to experience his performances. His control, his passion, his sympathy, his amazing memory can never surely be surpassed.

  • I cannot begin to count how many times I've watched this incredible finale. Thank you for posting it.

  • @gregapage Well, I am not an atheist at all, and I got into this discussion late, but I think there is a big misconception about what Mahler was thinking when he wrote "Resurrection." If you read the words that Mahler himself wrote into the choral part, not just the poem on which most the rest of the text is based, you'll find that he had an idea of resurrection that is based on his own efforts...very different from the Christian message.

  • @Atreus21 I agree.

  • On first hearing this symphony it changed my life and since then 20 yrs ago I still hold fascination with Mahler. His music articulates what is inside of all of us - we hear, we understand it's about everything in Life.

  • He certainly was, but I believe that he himself sought his inspiration in Him...

  • @addi2x06

But if you disbelieve in Mahler, after you believed in him....
