If opera is expected to survive, the boundaries will have to be pushed a little.
Frankly, I'm pretty tired of those pseudo-intellectuals who think opera needs to be stuffed under a powdered wig to be considered "legitimate."
Opera has the opportunity to be living, breathing art form. It has to change with the times. Les Indes Galantes was intended to be light and enjoyable, and this is how it's presented here.

I love the crazy looking 17th century explorer/merchant wearing a piped green and orange tunic. For some reason I imagine that as being the French idea of crazy dutch pioneers/explorers and it's awesome.

Opera isnt meant to be this much fun,is it?JUst love watching anything with Patricia Petibon in it, so quite biased yet this looked like a very spirited production.

Christie, Petibon and the rest are all awesome. Productions like this, as innovative and daring as Rameau himself, are an inspiration.
Would anybody know what is the name of that lady who stands behind Mrs Petibon around 0:55? She is kind of impressive to me:) Thanks in advance!
