2011 FALL SALMON FISHING TRIP

GOT OUT FOR SOME FALL SALMON FISHING ON A COUPLE LAKE ONTARIO TRIBUTARYS.
first time I've been out fishing in months after a long illness- Mikes ankle injury healed up enough for him to come home for the weekend and take me out fishing.

Question: by mid november and dec are all the salmon pretty much dead and its the browns and steelhead in the tributaries feeding on the spawn?

I notice that people tend to switch from eggs and egg imitation lures to gigs as it gets colder... This has been a pretty odd fall here and I have yet to fish the a tribs here.. any advice would be appreciated!

@LakeErieRats cohos run and spawn into early january on the lake o tribs same with late running browns.

i do best this time of year with marabou jigs on the lk ontario tribs and egg sacks on the erie tribs - dont know why but that s what works best for me

Best wishes Bill, really glad to see you out. Colin and I went out today, lost three today on a crowded Lake Erie trib... had a lot of fun. He was watching this video, wants me to take him north, so I think we'll see if we can scare up some browns and steelies. Been a while since I've been up Rt. 98. Be well, health is everything.

Nice fish! But how come you don't use a landing net? It's better for the fish, and some that you lose close in, you will get. But it's nice to see you out there again!

@ROADSNAKE90ROADSNAKE thanks for the tips... I got a 6 lb brown today on an egg sack today... lost 3 others. I stayed off of the oak, it was a crowded sunday there... but I did see some salmon still mulling about on the smaller tribs too

Platte River emptying into Lake Michigan is my salmon river...its crystal clear and you can watch the schools of salmon as you try to catch them...i pulled out a 27lb king in september and a few others ...btwe great video and happy fishing
