the Miners memorial Day was started by the then Minister for Mines and Energy The Hon Geoff Wilson to remember all (both Coal and Metaliferous) miners who have been killed in mining accidents in Queensland.
The day selected is the 19th September which is the anniversary of the Mount Mulligan disaster, which is the worst mining disaster in Qld .& men and Boys died in 1921
A tripartite committee has been set up and is chaired by the Commissioner for Mine Safety Stewart bell and is funded by the Mines Department.
Next years day will be celebrated in Blackwater.
Since records have been kept in the late 1800s there have been approx 428 coal fatalities in Qld and approx 1050 metaliferous and Quarry workers
