saltpan worker life kutch

This video shows the life of a saltpan worker in kutch, Gujarat...The worker spends 8months of his life isolated from everyone, working on saltpan....poor farmer is heavily exploited by merchants. Inspite of continuously working for several months...what he gets in return is tuberculosis, night blindness, weakening eyesight, deformed limbs and empty stomach for him and his family. His childrens also fall into the traps set by the salt merchant.

NGO Gantar formed in 1995 is working hard to put the children of saltpan workers into mainstream. Alongwith basic education the childrens are thought special skills like cooking, electrician, plumber, beauty parlour..... which will help them to get job in the society.
