@mortalcoil1 In fact, there is a book already out from the Ind. Hist. Society called "Peopling Indiana: The Ethnic Experience" which chronicles the var. ethnic groups of Indiana, and it does have a chapter on Romanians written by Dr. Mary Leuca, PhD. I also got the opprotunity to meet and have dinner with her, she is SO knowlegdeable about all things Romanian. Additionally, the chapter she wrote was also her dissertation from Purdue in the late 70's, you should check IPFW for a copy

@mortalcoil1 Same here, I grew up listening to Boldi and his orchestra with my grandma and grandpa on tape cassettes my grandpa had recorded. After my grandpa's passing in 2000 (he was 84), my family and I had uncovered a whole bunch of vinyl records he had stashed away someplace, ONLY ONE ALBUM of Boldi was there. Even though I honestly could care less about ethnic heritage as overrated, believe me, Boldi's music is SO fun, so infectious, it virtually screams TRAIASCA ROMANIA!!! =)

@george9651 Hey there, George! I am from Fort Wayne, IN, and I grew up listening to John Boldi & his Orchestra on 78 RPM records- there was a set of 5 or 6 records with green labels, and a further set with blue labels. In addition, I believe i still have a 33 RPM album of his- although I have to search as it has been borrowed a few times over the years and is both slightly warped and a little scratched. My great aunt may still have her set of the 78's intact so I can check with her.

Liviu Vasilica, one the great virtuosos of Romanian folk music, right up there with Maria Tanase, Ileana Sararoiu, and (from my grandpa's time) John Boldi and Neil Bondshu from IndIana Harbor, Ind. (which DID have a huge Romanian community, again from my grandparents' time, during the 20's all the way thru the 40's)
RIP/DUMNEZEU SA-L IERTE ;)

Invatati copii romaneste. Va e rusine cu limba noastra. E cea mai frumoasa din limbile vorbite si la originea tuturor limbilor indoeuropene. Poate nu stiati dar italienii vb limba romana, nu noi latina

I'm a 2nd gen Romanian/Canadian and have never really heard much of any of this music. My grandfather left me a huge stack of old records from Romania and I'm just now listening to them and trying to find their titles on You-tube. Romania interests me, but all I can find are bits and pieces.
