Lane of Gracie Barra Idaho wins his match after 2 Ippon throws. The first was changed to a Shido after Ref was reminded of the new IJF rule, which states attacks that are initiated with any kind of leg or ankle grab is now a Shido. Lane then throws with Harai Goshi for the win.

  • I totally agree. This throw along with Kata Guruma were staple throws for Judoka. They are trying to weed out BJJ and Wrestler players from competition I think.

  • @androphinx The direction that Judo is going in is far from its roots. There were many subs in Judo until 1925 which took away from its effectiveness. Judo today is nothing more then a watered down version of its original self.

  • @kosenjudo Thats funny you said that because I just had a conversation with my Judo coach about the same thing.

  • I think the new rules have it's positive sides and it's negative sides. I mean, the Kata Garuma etc. are in fact gone but throws like the Harai Goshi etc. are much easier now. I think it's still well balanced and because of the new rules judo looks better

  • @danielarlenecool I think it is the right direction. And with the rule they want to get judo back to its roots. Look how many judoka just waited for a chance to grab a leg and throw without any try to do another throw.

  • That new rule really stinks. It takes judo away from its roots and toward a a structure as stifling and boring as greco roman wrestling. Bad direction!
