this movie was very sensual. the music, the cinematography....it was all hot and hazy and dreamy. i watched this movie when i was 17/18 and i kept thinking to myself...why would they push each other away and deny each other like that? this movie has stayed in my mind for a long time. i dont care what the critics say. i love this movie.

ok...a handsome, rich goin on 30yr ol man. a very cute, shy horny teenager meets and then has a sexual love affair. ca' mon.....r u kiding me...i have a 15yr old daughter..last thing i want is her to be havin wild sex with rich or poor 30 yr ol man. but on the sexual fantasy side...it wood make for a good read.

@chrysalide114 oo oke. well, this is also the first and so far the only movie i've seen him in. one of the most convincing actors. i kept having to remind myself that this was a movie. an not the "actual" thing. and the girl, she actually looks just like the real girl.

Only mention left of Tony's non-movie writing came from hkmdb.com (Hong Kong Movie Database), "'He once wrote articles for the newspaper Sun Man Pao, and later even published his own collected articles as a book."' btw, meant to write YesAsia.com is site to buy all his movies.

unfortunately, the library here is sorta lame, they don't even have The North China Lover. which is a longer version of The Lover. it's more on what all happened in their relationship.

it actually took me almost a month to find The Lover.

@chrysalide114 the book never had that violent scene. in the book he was so much kinder, he bathed her, did her make up before she would leave and treated her everynight to the nicest resturants. he gave her a ride to and from her Boarding school and the boarding house. and when he met her family he almost cried because he felt he had done something to them to make them this way. and actually i think he was about 27.

I wish the scene where he gets violent was not included in the movie; maybe that's why it didn't win any Oscars. And I've always wondered whether the lover in the original story lied about being experienced; he's very tender for someone over thirty.
