The Ghost Dance appeared during a time of desperation for the Native American Indian people. The Ghost Dance started when Paiute shaman Jack Wilson or Wovoka had a vision that if our people would dance and sing we Indians would live again. The Ghost Dance spread throughout the land. In Dec. 1890 the military panicked and massacred innocent Lakota Indian people at Wound Knee while they danced. It is one of the worse incidents in United States history. Judy Trejo - Summit Lake (Tommo Agi) and Walker River (Agi) Paiute and Anita Collins - Shoshone and Walker River Paiute speak about Wovoka. The Round Dance was a traditional Great Basin dance that spread across the land in the form of the Ghost Dance, and is now part of many celebrations. Robbie Robertson sings "Ghost Dance".

  • This is really cool--what film is it from?

  • I feel bad about what my ancestors went thru.

  • How painful...."Almost endangered species" is there a full documentary for this?

  • @goldmoney12353 What up Num?

  • anyone else paiute here?

  • the government has an agenda they wont stop until we as humans together destroy them but thats not gonna happen because we are all brainwashed its not about white brown yellow black its about good vs evil people dont understand this thats why we will never win

  • @HeySenthil Nah, you're welcome :) But I think it's good that you ask a native person for information instead of checking out some websites. Believe me, 95% of everything written about natives on websites is bullshit. Some time ago I checked out a website about native population and they listed my tribe under 'extinct nation' <- What the heck? Oh, and only natives of the north west have totem poles.

  • @Innkaris Hi, I didn't mean to give you hard time :) I'm Indian from India(Originally) so I get really lost when I do research on Indian tribes. thanks so much for the info though. Now I have to go research on Totem poles!

  • @HeySenthil Uh, that's a tough one. Let me think a minute. The ghost dances are specific to certain tribes and not all. Keep in mind that we're over 500 tribes, all with different languages & beliefs. So it is kinda difficult for me to tell you exactly which nations are ghost dance nations and which not. But now that you mention it, I have never heard of any north east & south east tribes that dance the gd. It's more common among plain nations. Woah, you're really giving me a hard time with this

  • @Innkaris Hi, where can i found out which tribes practiced this dance and which one's didn't? Also did any of these tribes practiced "Ghost Dance" Haida, Tlingit, Tsmishian, Makahs, and Kwakiutls. Thanks very much.
