John Wayne and Robert Montgomery share leading roles in this action story about America's early days in World War Two. The story is set in the Philippines, where both men are captains of US Navy PT Boats. Wayne falls in love with a nurse(Donna Reed) and as the days progess the Japanese advance and the Americans are hopelessly outnumbered and fight for their very survival. Great supporting cast includes Ward Bond, Leon Ames, Marshall Thompson and Cameron Mitchell, in only his second credited onscreen appearance.

  • Its great that you have access to all these trailers..........but they're ONLY ADS..............would it be possible to post a couple of complete films. No offfense...............watchin trailers ain't shit.

    Thanks (I think0

  • I've posted whole films before, and YouTube has deleted them due to copyright infringement--they won't allow copyrighted material to be shown free of charge when some company or group owns that film. Sometimes people post whole movies and they're left up for months, sometimes only a couple of days before they are deleted. I've posted these trailers not to advertise anything, but just to pay tribute to the films, filmakers, actors, etc.

  • It's the greatest contemporaneous film to come out of WW II. It is simply a masterpiece.

  • This movie has enough manly heroics in it to make todays Leftist Liberal men... run to their moms basement and cower like a frightened little girl!

  • @grabit1 I'm kind of a generalist where WWII is concerned. But this movie wasn't a complete waste for a Warbird Fan. In the attack scene on the Cavite Navy Yard the attackers were SBD Dauntleses and when the 34 Boat is attacked and destroyed those are OS2U Kingfishers. Both are very rare Birds today.

  • @Ktfz6g

You're more of a Navy guy than I am. I grew up around airplanes. But one of the great reasons this is the contemporaneous masterpiece of WW II movies is that it didn't matter. You can have the girl, if you drop the bomb or shoot the torpedoe properly.

  • @Ktfz6g Probably the best war picture favorite of mine too. such a small boat but plenty orf KICK YOU FUCKING ASS IF I WANT TO. HAHAHAHAHAH

  • My Favorite Movie, All-Time. Take a close look at the rear of the Boats during the climactic attack on the Mogami Class Heavy Cruiser. You'll see Puffs of smoke coming from its Stern. I assume that these were the launchers for the Pyrotechnics. Also as pointed out the boat cast included 2 80 foot ELCO boats ( the 41 and the 34) with the other 4 boats being Huckins 79 footers.

  • so guys did you notice the 77ft elco disguised as an 80 footer. take a look in the movie when John Wayne's boat is on the sea railway..pretty cool huh!

don't know why they had to do that ,but it's there. p.s. love this movie !!!

  • @grabit1 Effects guys like the Lydeckers, Gillespie (They Were Expendable) and Meddings were magicians. They'd never tell their secrets! : )

That's why we've had so much trouble finding how they did things.

  • @noworkinternational

I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure the Japanese boats weren't models (the explosions look too realistic and intricate). You can also see the water draft of the camera boat in several shots. On the other hand, I'm not sure what kind of mock-ups they were. Hard to tell since they were photographed from a distance.

  • @grabit1

Hey there. I know the PT Boats weren't models, but I was thinking the Japanese cruisers were. Were they, and if not, I've been trying to find what type of mock-ups they were and how big. Thanks, Grabit1!!!

  • @noworkinternational

These weren't models. There were special effects, to be sure, back projection and otherwise. But these were real boats, blown up in Tampa Bay.
