Rick was great, I remember feeling so sick to my stomach when Nilan butt-ended him in the mouth back in 85 I believe, a great player like Nifty getting that kind of treatment?? and Nilan should have been kicked out of hockey!!!

Middleton's magic was his ability to make that one last lateral move. Watch as he consistently gets the goalies to move first, assuming that he's in so tight that he only has one option for a shot. Then watch him make one last move that most players would not have the ability to make. Wasn't that big, didn't have a rocket shot, but great balance, hands, and feet -- one of the most creative players ever. Sometimes it looked like he was playing street hockey against the neighborhood little kids.

Sorry Orr, Bourque, O'Reilly, Cashman, etc. etc. #16 Ricky Middleton is my favorite Bruin of all time. Love ya Nifty!

nifty sure lived up to his nickname. scored the prettiest goal i ever saw live in the saddledome in calgary.

Look at 1:17 When the Quebec defensemen slashes him In today's NHL that would be called as a major penalty.
When we played back in the late 70's and early 80's that was nothing. The currect NHL needs to have the players on the ice police themselves

Anyone who wants to help local rescue leagues (boston area) can bid on a dinner for four with Terry O'Reilly and Rick Middleton. I understand that there is a certain amount of signed memorabilia included with the dinner package as well. Anyone interested can message me: { conor AT mdc DOT net } for auction info and link. Thanks

When you look at what Rick turned out to be the trade seems beyond lopsided. Middleton for Hodge. They figured he would team up again well with Espo. Nifty was 23 and Hodge was 31. Had Hodge produced for New York the same way he had in Boston the trade would've been a draw. But in the end it turned out to be a young & emerging player for an older player who's production was diminshing. Maybe they thought Nifty was soft. Easily one of the worst trades the Rangers have ever made

Rick is definitely one of the best players to never win a stanley cup and also just a tad short of being a HOF. Nifty just missed 100 points, and when you consider that there are now players with well over 1,000 points (Nicholls, Larmer, Turgeon, Housely) who are not in and won't get in it doesn't bode well for Rick, but it should be pointed out that in the case of Nicholls and Turgeon, they had 1 or 2 explosive seasons 6 then tapered off. Rick was more consistent.

Middleton come's up just a little short on a HoF career . He did not get 500 goal's , crack a 1000 point's or get a Cup ring . I have nothing against him , he is one of my favorite's as well . The stat's is what is keeping him out .

A reminder of the great player he was. Thanks for posting this.
Middelton is one of the NHL greats. I hope that I see him go into the HOF in my lifetime. I can't think of another NHL'er more worthy. My first NHL game, I saw Boston vs Quebec in 1986 and had the privilege of watching such talents as Middelton, Goulet, and the Stasney brothers. #16 was shaking, baking and shooting the puck. Great player, deserves HOF.
