  • Greylag geese

  • Look forward to seeing you.

However try to book early rather than later if you have a specific period you need to come up in as we do get booked up.

    Rob

  • The best time to come up is when the numbers peak which tends to be around the first week of December. However the shooting is good with reliable bags from early october through until mid-late jan.

  • Only two groups of Italians have come up to Orkney this year.

I have been told ( and heard them) that they had two mornings of excessive bags.

However they do not effect any of our shooting as they aren't aloud to shoot on our ground (around 20'000acres). So don't effect any of our flights.

The RSPB also count numbers of 63'000 at points during the season so a couple of large bags from these Italians don't even make a dent in the numbers.

  • Using the basic illinois river GLG-16 greylag call.

At the moment we are fine for guides but you are welcome to come up and shoot.

abused then I will not have a career in a few years.

I am sorry if I have repeated myself and maybe come across a little defensive but the comments that you have put down are simply not true.

If you want to chat further feel free to comment/email/call or meet me down the pub for a drink.

Lastly- I have been coming here for a long time and the person I have taken over from was coming for a good few years before me. I am now close to a lot of farmers and also local guys. I see myself as being there yes to earn a living doing something that I love but also to make sure that the shooting isn't abused and that farmers, hotels, restaurants etc all benefit from the groups that I bring up. At the end of the day I have got a long term view and feel that if the shooting is

  • Berettaboy100:

the shooting with and leave areas solely for the local guys (07748805076).

  • Berettaboy100:

Fourthly- I am not sure if you are aware but I actually am friends and share my shooting of some areas with the locals as I have a lot of respect for locals and feel they should not be driven out as it is your home! I know this has not been the case over the west mainland and a lot of the locals were very unhappy with the Italian guides not allowing the locals to shoot... If you are struggling in your normal areas feel free to give me a call and I will let you know where I share..

  • Berettaboy100:

Thirdly- I shoot sensible numbers and do not over shoot areas as this would effect the quality of shooting that I provide through the season. There is potential for me to have a few guides working for me with the number of options I have most mornings. However, I am not going to ever do this as this would put pressure on the shooting and we would head the way that the Solway and Aberdeen have gone. Also I do not have any foreign clients come to shoot(west mainland area).

(cont) thus, if you see a random group coming onto your patch and you know you are the only one with permission feel free to state this law. I found this law out 7 years ago from one of the local wildfowlers and I even rang basc to research and confirm it for me.

  • Berettaboy100:

Secondly- If you do your homework you will find that there is a law (namely 'udal') which states that in order to shoot the shoreline in the Orkney islands and the Shetlands then you have to get permission from the landowner. They own the shooting to the LWM. This is not a well know fact in the wildfowling community as people assume that the recreation law that applies on the Scottish mainland still applies.
