Footprints

Another classic from the pen of the master, Wayne Shorter. A simple minor blues, but with lots of room for exploration and improvisation. I try to start the solo simple and then build, adding increasing levels of tension and resolve along the way. The 6/8 Afro-Cuban type rhythm lends itself to interesting rhythmic possibilities.

I will try to add some annotations to this using the YouTube annotate feature little by little as time permits. The midi file of my solo as well as a somewhat accurate transcription (generated from the midi file) are available on my web site at http://www.lot2learn.com.

It sounds like you locked yourself in a room with a piano and a stack of Herbie, McCoy, and Ritchie Beirach records for ten years and didn't come out until you could play it all! ;-)
